The Lady Bruins basketball team improved to 11-2 after winning the Monroe Central Invitational on Saturday.
The Lady Bruins played Union County in the opener and jumped to a 12-5 lead after one. The Patriots picked up their game in the second quarter and took actually took their only lead of the game 19-18 with just over a minute to go in the half. Lauren Godfrey’s 3-point basket seconds later gave the Lady Bruins the lead for good, 21-19.
A strong third quarter, that would become the norm for the day, lead to a 10 point lead heading to the fourth. The Bruins continued to stretch lead as they proved to be too strong for the Patriots and went on to win 49-31.
Lauren Godfrey lead the Bruins with 26 points. Maggie-Weeks Foy added 10.
In the nightcap, the Lady Bruins took a 10-6 lead to the second period and played well enough in the second to lead 16-9 with Godfrey and Weeks-Foy again leading the scoring attack while Weeks-Foy and Faith Morris dominated the boards.
The Lady Bruins returned to their strong third quarter form of the day as they stretched their lead to 20 over the host Lady Golden Bears. Coach Jack Norton’s squad went on to win the tournament with a score of 44-20.
Godfrey lead all scorers with 18. Weeks-Foy and Morris each chipped in 9 and were very successful on the boards.
Godfrey and Weeks-Foy earned all-tournament honors and Godfrey was named the tournament MVP.

The JV girls finished as runner ups after defeating Union County in the morning game and falling to the hosts in the final. Rachel Thomas lead the Lady Bruins against UC with 12 while Kaylee Carfield lead the Bruins in the championship game with 9. Addie Schick added 8. The JV girls are now 6-6 on the season.
