The Lady Bruin softball team fell to Yorktown in sectional opener 13-1. Yorktown scored 4 in the first and added 4 more in the second to take control.
The Bruins would break the shutout off the Tiger starter with a an ERA of .97 for the season with a score in the bottom of the 3rd. Maggie Weeks-Foy singled to start the inning. She later scored from first on a single from Zoie Mann.
“This group has struggled at times this season with pitching and errors, but they never quit! I am very proud of the effort given night in and night out,” stated Head Coach Scott Schick. “We were a very senior led team all year. Tonight was no different,” Schick continued.
In conclusion, Schick added “We have a lot of big shoes to fill losing 8 seniors. Many of them have been 3 or 4-year starters, and big contributors. I want to thank them for their hard work and leadership this season. They have been a pleasure to coach!!”
The Lady Bruins (9-16) scratched out 5 hits. Getting those hits were Weeks-Foy, Mann, Addisyn Schick, Shannon Walker and Kirstin Kreischer. Shannon Walker took the loss on the mound. Three Bruins pitchers allowed 7 earned runs on 11 hits. They walked 11 and struck out 3.
Hannah Simmons and Tori Eppard will continue their softball careers at Taylor University next year.
