Multiple Teams · JH Girls Win Openers at West Jay

The Junior High girls got off to a great start as both teams picked up wins at West Jay last night.

In the 7th grade game, Faith Maloney set the pace with 7 of her 11 points coming in the first quarter. It was a total team effort from the first quarter to the finish, with seven Lady Bruins contributing to the score sheet.  Madison Merkel set the defensive tone with her lockdown man-to-man defense throughout the game. Katie Apperson and Josie Oswalt controlled the paint with numerous offensive rebounds and put back lay-ups. Oswalt finished with 7 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.

The 8th graders beat West Jay 40-14. Grace Simmons led all players with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jeni Rogers scored 11 points and added 7 steals.

Coach Ortman shared, “It was really a team victory.” Based on the stats, that was certainly true. Avery Kabrich scored 6 points. Jaycie Sones scored 7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Alex Hurd scored 4 points and hauled down 10 boards. Helen Whitesell added a basket, 5 steals and 8 assists.

The Lady Bruins look to keep the positive momentum going tonight at Delta. The 7th grade game tips off at 5:30pm.
