The Bruin boys basketball teams traveled to Madison-Grant and came up on the short end of the 3 games on Friday.
After a slow start, the varsity Bruins played even basketball with Madison-Grant throughout the 2nd and 3rd quarters. The Bruins got two 3-pointers off the bench by Brandon Stroble and Jake Ross hit a late three to cut the lead to 10 at the half. Andrew Beckley hit the shot of the night….a mid-court shot at the buzzer to end the 3rd quarter.
The Bruins were able to get to the free throw line and convert on 10 of 13 free throws in the 4th quarter, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with Madison-Grant’s 18 point 4th quarter.
Seven Bruins scored in the game. Brandon Stroble led the Bruins with 10 points. Mark White had 8 points, all from the free throw line in hitting 8 of 11. Tyler Cagle scored 7 points. Andrew Beckley added 5. Jake Ross had 3. Quinten Howard had 2 and Kerigan Reynard added 1. Austin Elkins chipped in on the defensive end with 4 blocks.
The JV held a 10 point lead heading to the 4th quarter, but fell 43-41 as Coach Newlin had to sit some players to save quarters for the varsity game. Struggles at the free throw line in the 4th quarter didn’t help the cause.
Seven players scored in the game. Brandon Stroble led the Bruins with 15 points. Dalton Willmann followed with 11. Peyton Hurd finished with 7. Brandon Apple scored 3 and Nick Otwinowski and Caleb Mealy each added 2. Rydge Dunica hit a free-throw for his single point. The JV drops to 4-5 on the season.
The C team lost their game 27-20. Coach Scott Cagle shared, “We need to be consistent for 4 quarters. We have improved our shot selection and playing better as as a team.” Caleb Mealy was the leading scorer with 7. The C team is now 0-5.
The Bruins will play at home Friday against Mississinewa. There will be three games with the C game tipping off at 5pm.
