The Bruin boys basketball teams picked up two wins over APA last night.
In the JV game, Brandon Stroble scored 15 points to lead the Bruins to a 52-35 win over the Jets. Peyton Hurd scored 11. Dalton Willmann added 10.
In the varsity game, the Bruins got 15 points from Ethan Huffman enroute to a 61-51 victory of APA. The win snapped the state’s longest losing streak at 61. The Bruin last victory was over Southern Wells on February 21, 2014.
Blackford got off to a good start offensively with Andrew Beckley hitting two 3-pointers in the first quarter as the Bruins got off to an early lead and led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Bruins increased the lead to 11, but APA charged back and took a three point lead with under 30 seconds to go in the first half. Ethan Huffman hit a shot right before halftime to bring the Bruins within 1.
The Bruins got off to another quick start to the second half sparked by two 3-pointers by Ethan Huffman. After re-gaining the lead, the bruins led throughout the second half and sealed the game by shooting 75% from the free throw line.
Coach Scott Clamme, who earned his first career victory, shared, “I am extremely happy for the players. They deserve the win. They come in and work hard every day. I’m glad they got to see their hard work pay off tonight. Hopefully, this will take some pressure off and they will be able to play more relaxed and have more success in our upcoming games.”
The JV won 52-35. Brandon Stroble had 15 points. Peyton Hurd added 11.
