The varsity Bruins got off to an 11-2 lead and led 11 to 10 at the end of the first quarter. Ethan Huffman hit three of six 3-pointers in the first half but the Bruins trailed by two at the half. The game remained close through the second half, but North Miami was able to stretch out the lead and hit late free throws to seal the win.
Huffmann led the Bruins in scoring with 15 points hitting five of nine 3-pointers. Andrew Beckley and Nathan Brown each had 9 points. Jake Ross hit two 3’s for 6 points.
“We got off to a good start in the first quarter. Our defensive intensity was great and we forced ten first quarter turnovers. We also shot the ball well from the perimeter,” Coach Clamme stated, “Unfortunately, we weren’t able to keep up the intensity. We had a rough game last night and this was the player’s 5th game in 9 days. Looking back, I should have made more substitutions early in the game to keep the players fresh. Late in the game, we struggled to rebound, our defensive rotations were slow, and our shots were short. Our players kept fighting, but we just ran out of gas.”
The Bruins fell to 1-13 with the loss.
The JV played to a 21 tie at the half, but struggled in the second half to fall 55-40. Dalton Willman scored 17 points to lead the Bruins. Caleb Mealy added 7. The JV is now 5-9 on the season.
The C, JV, and varsity boys basketball team will play at Eastbrook Friday. The C game tips off at 5:00pm.
