The Bruins fell to Delta 74-26 in their final game of the regular season. Tyler Cagle scored 9 points to lead the Bruins. Dalton Willmann and Andrew Beckley each scored 6.
The Bruins got off to a solid start and only trailed 12-8 at the end of the first quarter, but the physicality of Delta Eagles along with poor shooting by the Bruins led to a 29-11 deficit for the Bruins at the half. The Eagles rode the emotions of their senior night through the second half and the Bruins’ struggles continued. Freshman Dalton Willmann provided a bright spot with 2 steals, 3 rebounds and 6 points in the fourth quarter.
“Delta is a very physical team. When you travel to an opponent who plays in a physical conference like the HHC, you have to expect that the officials will let a lot of things go,” shared Coach Scott Clamme. He continued, “We struggled to adjust to that at times. It will be a very similar situation playing in the sectional at Marion next week. Hamilton Heights will be very physical on Tuesday, and we will have to adjust to how the game is being called.”
The Bruins fell 41-12 In the JV game. Peyton Hurd scored 4 points for the Bruins. Braydon Overmeyer hit a 3-pointer.
“It wasn’t how we wanted to finish,” said coach Newlin. “But we really improved a lot throughout the season. Due to injuries and players being moved up to the varsity, we had a lot of freshmen playing JV and playing in positions and roles they weren’t accustomed to. These guys showed tremendous growth in their individual skills and abilities. If they keep it up through the off season, it will really benefit them when they come back next year.”
The JV finished the season 5-17.
The Bruins play Hamilton Heights on Tuesday around 7:30pm in the Marion Sectional.
