The Lady Bruins recorded their first victory of the season in their opener at Jay County. The Lady Bruins built a big lead in the first inning with nine runs on four hits, five bases on balls and an error. The Bruins added one runs in the 2nd and 3rd inning.
Jay County whittled away at the Bruin lead through the rest of the game but the Lady Bruins ended it with a catch of a foul pop fly at the fence by firstbaseman Makayla Harold.
The Lady Bruins ended the game with eight hits including a double and single by Makayla Harold, two singles from Erin Cagle, a double from Alex Whittig, and singles by Alena Lee, Lauriah Lytle and Jaci Rogers.
Alex Whittig earned the win on the mound with 13 strike outs. She walked eight and allowed six earned runs.
Coach Dick Lyon, who earned his first career victory as head coach, shared, “I am very happy to get the first win. We only had four strike outs and we were patient at the plate not swinging at bad pitches. Alex did a great job pitching and hung in there late in the game without getting down.”
The Lady Bruins head to South Adams on Wednesday for a 5pm contest weather permitting.
