Girls Junior Varsity Softball, Girls Varsity Softball · Lady Bruins Come Up Short in 9 Innings

In the first round of sectional action on Monday, the Lady Bruins played their hearts out with Taylor for nine innings, but took the loss 8-3.

Taylor scored three runs, on three hits and two errors in the second for the early lead. Meanwhile, the Lady Bruins found themselves battling against one of the fastest pitchers they have faced all season, but didn’t give up. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Bruins finally scored three runs, on a walk, two singles and a passed ball to tie the game.

It took extra innings to put Blackford away. In the top of the 9th inning, Taylor put up five runs and the Lady Bruins couldn’t respond.

Saylor Goodspeed took the loss. She tossed nine innings, allowing eight runs, 11 hits, and struck out seven.

Lierra Hillman went 2-for-4 at the plate as she led the team with a run batted in. Haylie Williamson added a double, and Alex Whittig, Jaci Rogers, and Alena Lee each had singles.

“I am so proud of these girls tonight. They could have given up early tonight against this pitcher, but they didn’t. Saylor (Goodspeed) pitched a great game, and everyone stayed positive the whole game. I had said earlier, that I wanted to compete tonight, and we did that”, said coach Dick Lyon.

The Lady Bruins ended their season 5-16.
