The boys soccer team took a 1-0 lead to halftime after a Colton McNeal goal, but couldn’t hang on for the win. Peyton Smith had the assist. Charlie Cranston recorded 11 saves and denied a penalty kick while in goal. The Bruins finished in a 1-1 tie with Wapahani to move to 4-5-3 on the season.
Head Coach Brad Batman remarked, “Wapahani has some dangerous players on their team. It was great to see how their coaches have developed that team into what it is now.
“Today we implemented a new system of play. I was happy with how we ran (it) with only working on it one practice. I believe the team enjoyed playing it as we saw a lot of former weaknesses disappear tonight. We made two bad tackles which led to the goal by Wapahani. Our midfield stayed strong to support some new guys playing defense together. It was a great team effort in all phases of the game. It was great to see this type of play after introducing new strategies and tactics.
“Our next match is away at Oak Hill on Thursday. There will be a JV match after the varsity plays. I’m looking forward to seeing how this new system works against a very good team in Oak Hill. Should be a great match to come watch!”
The Bruins are at Oak Hill on Thursday for a 6pm start. A JV game follows the varsity match.
