The BJHS Cross Country teams ran at the New Haven Invitational on Saturday. They ran a 4k race instead of the typical 3K for most of the other meets.
Cami Caldwell lead the team off with a time of 19:57 in 113th place, but Allison Jacobs was close behind in 117th in 20:05. Ruby Slentz finished 3rd for the team in 18th with Allie Parsons coming in next and Faith Gephart and Leah Cale wrapping up the girls team.
Coach Amanda Slentz said “New Haven is a huge race for Jr High with small and big schools running together. The girls race had 346 while the boys had 405 finishers. It is easy to get boxed in behind a crowd and lose your pace, but it’s exciting to see the big races.” The girls finished 13th of 13 schools.
Noah Kitterman placed 100th in 17:19. Michael Freeman finished 2ND for the team in his last race for the season since 5th graders cannot run at the conference meet next week. Ethan Hidy ran 3rd for the team with Ryne Clamme, Keaton Walker, and Charleston Slentz finishing one right after the other.
Coach Amanda Slentz said “This race was quite a bit farther than the 3K we typically run. Between that and the heat, we didn’t have quite the times we were hoping for. We were also missing 2 girls today due to sickness.” The boys finished 12th of 12 schools.
