The JH boys played two split-squad games last night as part of Bruins Head Coach Jerry Hoover’s plan to get numbers up and to provide more opportunities for the kids.
The 7th graders fell to Frankton at home, 56-22. Ryan Burris scored 8 points. Dayton Hoover scored 6. Nate Limle added 5 and Derrick Elliott added 2. The Mr. Hustle Award went to Ryan Burris, Dayton Hoover and Ty Daily. The split games allowed a lot more playing time for the Bruins. Despite the loss, they once again showed several bright spots as they continue their noticeable improvement.
The 7th graders at South Adams dug an early 16-0 hole on the way to a 52-21 loss. The Bruins finished both halves strong on each end of the floor. Carson Smith scored 9 points to lead the Bruins. Eli Martin scored 5 points. Landon Rogers scored 3 points and Noah Spaulding and Dylan Teer each added a basket. The Mr. Hustle Award went to Jacob Ludwig and Carson Smith.
The 8th grade black squad beat Frankton 48-41 for their fourth straight win improving to 4-1 on the season. The black squad had a balanced attack led by CJ Shafer with 16 points followed by Eric Huffman with 12. Hunter Gruwell and Scott Winger pitched in 10 points each to round out the scoring.
The 8th grade red squad lost to South Adams, 46-17 in their first game together. They were led by Keegan Stewart with 10 points. Jerrid Kershner and Mason Randall added 5 and 2 points respectively.
The JH boys host Eastbrook on Thurday. There will be a separate 5th quarter with a 6 minutes running quarter after both games to get some more kids some time on the floor. The 7th grade game tips off at 5:30pm.
