The varsity boy’s basketball team improved to 11-5 with a win over Tri-Central on Thursday night, 68-58. They are one win shy of guaranteeing their first winning season since 2001-02.
Despite playing without freshman point guard Luke Brown, the Bruins took an early lead after the first, 13-11. The Bruins picked up their defensive pressure in the second, which led to several Tri-Central turnovers and points for the Bruins. JD Hoover had the hot hand scoring 16 first points to pace the Bruins to a 17 point halftime advantage.
The Bruins started to lose focus in the second half and were outscored 23-13 in the third quarter. Blackford could have given in when the momentum started to shift to Tri-Central. Tri-Central cut the lead to three early in the 4th, but two seniors made sure that was not going to happen as they took charge in the fourth to seal the victory. Senior JD Hoover scored 8 more points in the fourth quarter and senior Jake Ross added 10 of his 12 points in the fourth, several at the free throw line.
Coach Hoover’s crew were led by JD Hoover with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists, Brandon Stroble followed with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Jake Ross finished with 12 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals, and Tyler Cagle finished with 4 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks.
The JV won their sixth game of the season with a 45-32 victory over Tri-Central. They improve to 6-10.
The Frosh/C defeated Tri-Central, 40-35. Cam Elam lead the Bruins with 14. Terry Adams added 7. They are now 5-8 overall.
The Frosh/C team hosts Yorktown next Wednesday at 6:00pm.
The JV and varsity Bruins host South Adams next Thursday. The JV game tips off at 6:00pm. There is no Frosh/C game that night.
