The Bruin boy’s basketball team let one slip away against South Adams on Thursday by a score of 62-54. On Friday, the Bruins were matched up against a much taller and very talented team at Oak Hill and fell, 94-33.
The Bruins trailed the entire first quarter to the Starfires before regrouping and outscoring their opponents 21-5 in the second to take a 33-22 lead into the half. But the offense sputtered the remainder of the game and the Starfires seemingly couldn’t miss in the third to take control of the game. Both teams shot well from the foul line down the stretch but the Bruins could never make a serious threat.
JD Hoover scored 22 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and added 4 assists to lead the Bruins. Brandon Stroble scored 11 points and added 5 boards. Jake Ross and Ethan Huffman eached scored 7 points.
The JV Bruins fell to South Adams 46-38. Dalton Willmann led the Bruins with 20. Peyton Hurd added 7. The fell to 6-11.
On Friday, the Golden Eagles hit 64% of their shots overall, including 67% from behind the arc, in route to an easy 94-33 victory over the Bruins who were basically smaller to the man. The game started well with Brandon Stroble hitting a deep three to give the Bruins the early 3-0, but the Bruins would go on to hit just 28% of their shots for the game. Turnovers heavily favored the home team as they won that battle, 25-5.
Hoover and Stroble again led the Bruins with 16 and 11 points respectively. Hoover added 7 rebounds.
The JV lost their game 49-37 after leading 16-5 after one. But the Eagles chipped away before taking charge early in the 4th and never looking back. Dalton Willmann scored 14 to lead the Bruins. Peyton Hurd scored 8. Caleb Mealy added 7. They are now 6-12.
The Frosh/C team lost their game, 40-10. Dane Baker scored 4 points to lead the Bruins. They dropped to 5-10 on the season.
The Bruins take another shot at securing their first winning season since the 2001-02 season as they entertain Southern Wells. The Frosh/C game will tip off at 5:00pm. It is also Senior Night of Friday. Seniors will be recognized between the JV and varsity game.
