Boys Junior Varsity Baseball · JV Baseball Falls to Bluffton

The JV baseball team fell 10-6 at Bluffton in a sloppy, rain shortened game Tuesday night. The JV Bruins are now 2-7 on the year.

The Tigers took advantage of four Bruin errors in the second inning to pounce to a 6-0 lead. Branstan Wine started for the Bruins and was pulled after an inning and a third, surrendering 6 runs of which two were earned. Coach Hissong commented after the game, “Branstan hung in fairly well tonight. It’s tough when you’re executing your pitches and not getting any help. Bluffton did a great job of putting the ball in play and pressured us to make plays. Unfortunately for Branstan, we let him down tonight. He deserved a better fate.”

The Bruins used a two RBI double from Kyle Price to cut the lead to 6-2 after two and a half innings before the Tigers added two more runs in the bottom of the third. A sloppy fourth for the Tigers saw the Bruins close the gap to 6-3 before the Tigers added four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-3 lead. Three runs in the top of the fifth brought the Bruins to within four runs before the game was called due to a rain.

“We showed fight tonight. If we would start games how we finish them our record would be a lot better. We have to figure out a way to start the game with a sense of urgency. Defensively, we have to stop committing errors. We cannot continue to give teams six or seven extra outs every game and expect to win. Offensively, we put together good at bats but can never seem to grab the momentum and keep it. This is a great group of kids who are working hard; that’s going to pay off eventually” coach Hissong shared after the game.

The Bruins host Delta at Bruin Field on Wednesday evening at 5:00pm.
