The JV Bruins lost a heartbreaker at Bellmont 6-5 Friday evening. The Bruins are now 2-9 on the year.
Kyle Price started on the mound for the Bruins and threw 5 innings allowing 5 runs (3 earned). Branstan Wine threw one and two thirds innings for the Bruins. The Braves were up 4-0 after 1 inning before Kyle Price unloaded on a full-count fastball, sending the ball well beyond the fence in left field to make it 4-1. The Bruins would add two more in the top of the second on a Nic Thomas double to make it 4-3. The game was tied going into the bottom of the seventh when the Braves walked to lead-off the inning before stealing second and scoring on a defensive error with two outs to walk-off with a 6-5 win.
“This one hurts. Their winning run got on by a walk and scored on an error. Kudos to their guys for being patient and forcing us to make plays, but that seventh inning is one we’d like to have back” Coach Colton Hissong shared after the game.
Offensively the Bruins were lead by Kyle Price’s lead-off homer in the second and Branstan Wine’s three hits. Nic Thomas added 2 doubles and four RBI.
”Our guys were short to the ball tonight and put it in play. This is the best offensive game we’ve had all year. The other games have been walks and errors but everything we scored tonight was from putting the ball in play. It felt like we took a huge step tonight. I hate that the progress came in a loss, but hopefully this will build some character” Coach Hissong concluded post game.
The JV Bruins host Winchester on Tuesday at 5:00pm.
