The JV Bruins used an eight run first and a 59 pitch complete game from Dane Baker to beat Winchester 15-2 Tuesday night. Baker went five innings striking out three while issuing no walks. “Dane did a great job of attacking the strike zone tonight. He trusted his defense and they came through for him. (Brandon) Apple had four nice plays in the outfield and Rydge (Dunica) had a slick double play to get us out of the fourth. Just a great effort by Dane and the entire defense,” Coach Colton Hissong shared after the game.
The Bruins were led by Branstan Wine at the plate who singled and homered for the Bruins. “I’m not sure it’s possible for Branstan to hit a ball much harder than he did on the home run. He’s worked hard to drive the ball to the gaps and he absolutely destroyed that ball” Hissong commented.
Kyle Price doubled for the Bruins while Taylor Glawson added a pinch hit to aid a Bruin offense that walked seven times and reached safely on four errors. |
“We’re starting to approach our potential. This is two games in a row the pitching and defensive efforts have been in sync. We showed a lot of patience at the plate tonight and hit the strikes hard. Tonight was another big step in the right direction for the group,” Hissong concluded.
The Bruins are now 3-9 and travel to Bluffton for a 5:00 tilt on Wednesday.
