The Lady Bruins pounded out 12 hits and had an 11-4 lead after four innings, but could hang on in falling to Shenandoah, 17-11.
Shenandoah scored eight in the 5th to take a 12-11 lead. The Lady Bruin threatened when the first two reached in the 6th, but two strikeouts and a pop followed to end the rally. The Lady Raiders tacked on five 7th inning runs to pad their margin.
The Lady Bruins were led at the plate by Freshman Alexa Hurd, who had a monster day at the plate. who had a single, double and homer, and knocked in five runs. Haylie Williamson added a double and two singles. Freshman Grace Simmons added a double and a single and Makayla Harrold, Helen Whitesell, Rose Berry and Khaley Sills each singled.
Grace Simmons took the loss on the mound for Blackford, pitching a complete game with 6 walks and 2 strikeouts.
“This was a fun game tonight. It was nice to see the bats come alive after we struggled to get hits the last two games,” said Coach Dick Lyon shared afterwards.
The Lady Bruins are 2-14 for the season and will be back in action on Tuesday at Alexandria at 5:00pm for a CIC contest.
