Bruins News · First-Ever Unified Flag Football Game to be Held at BHS on Sept 18

The first-ever Unified Flag Football game for our Bruins will take place at Bruin Field on Tuesday, September 18.

The schedule for the night:

5pm: BHS vs Marion
6pm: Marion vs Ole Miss
7pm: Ole Miss vs BHS

There will be no charge to watch the games.

Athletic Director Tony Uggen shared, “We are excited to host the first Unified Flag Football game next Tuesday. This is the first year for IHSAA sponsored Unified Flag Football so there have been some growing pains along the way especially in regard to scheduling. There are only 32 schools with the program so distance has been an issue in piecing together schedules for schools within an hour or so of us. But we finally were able to piece it together. Mississinewa actually put a team together after the season had started and I am glad they did so we have another nearby school with the program.”

Uggen continued, “Our small team, coached by Tyler McDonald, Linda Wallace, and Jim Nuckols, has been practicing for about a month so they are chomping at the bit to play. I have to be honest though, I am guessing on the game length as no one has played around here yet. So all three schools will be doing their best to learn and adjust on the fly as to how the game is to be played as there are major differences between Unified and regular football. Also, most schools are only going to play three-four games this first season. We hope to play another round robin night next week so we would all have four heading to the sectional on Saturday, September 29 at Noblesville High School. That sectional will include us, Marion, Mississinewa, Noblesville, and Fishers.”

“I hope people come out to watch especially since we are not charging a gate. You will really enjoy this as it allows some kids to play who normally don’t get the chance. Unified Track has certainly been a rewarding experience for all who have been involved. I expect no less of an experience from Unified Flag Football,” Uggen concluded.
