Alexandria came to Blackford Wednesday evening and swept a pair of CIC junior high volleyball matches from the Lady Bruins.
The 7th grade ladies won the first game of the night before Alex rallied to capture games two and three.
Leading the 7th grade were Natalie Dillon with 10 aces followed by Olivia Carroll with 8 and Gracie LaMotte and Kalyssa Lennon with five each. Sydney Morris and Lilly Terhune each recorded three aces.
“We took a loss, discussed our struggles, and hope to work them out for our next game,” said Coach Beverly Roberts whose 7th grade team dropped to 1-4.
The 8th grade fell in two games to Alexandria, 25-11, 25-9 and fell to 0-5 on the year.
Mariah Riddell led in aces with two, while also recording seven assists and four points. Mady Whitsell had fouir assists and one point, while with three assist each were Avy Williams, Isabelle Knox, and Kaybree Norton. Whitesell, Norton, and Kelsi Bade each had one point.
“I realize we took a big defeat, but I noticed good things from our Lady Bruins squad,” said Coach Matt Weaver. “We’re starting to transition well on defense, and Isabelle forced an attack error by being at the net for a block. Alexandria had a standout outside hitter. When she received a pass she would put acharge into it; her serves were very hard and fast as well. We must continue to work on our serving percentages and we have some work to do on serve/receive against hard-hitting servers, we will work on this in practice. You don’t lose, you learn”
The junior high teams will be back in action Saturday, September 15 in the Blue River Invitational.
