Bruins News · Lady Bruins get big win at home

Blackford scored 38 seconds into the game Thursday night and with a strong defensive effort defeated Wabash, 2-1.

Becca Parsons raced past Wabash defenders and found the back of the net just 38 seconds into the game. Parsons goal came on an assist from Helen Whitesell.

After Wabash tied the game around the 26 minute mark, Gabby Henderson gave the Lady Bruins the lead for good with 6 minutes to go in the half. Henderson would find the back of the net on a long distance shot from the right wing, crossing the ball to the far side of the net for the eventual game winning goal.

The second half would see Blackford play a balanced game on both sides of the ball. The Lady Bruin smothering defense was led by Sissy Reid, Grace Simmons, Joselyn Schick, Hailey Morris and Bre Adney.

“Grace and Bre were assigned to one player to shut down their offense, and they did their job effectively,” noted Coach Abby Whetsel.  “Wabash has one player responsible for the majority of their shots and most of their goals. We as a team, completely made her a non-factor in this game.”

Jaycie Sones collected 9 saves in goal only allowing the one goal in the first half.

The Lady Bruins would collect a total of 5 shots on goal in the win.

The Wabash Lady Apaches  fell to 3-6-1 on the year.
