Bruins News · Cagle Takes Reigns of Softball Program

The BHS Athletic Department is proud to announce that Scott Cagle will take over the reigns of the Bruin Softball Program. Cagle, a BHS grad, will attempt to turn around a program that has struggled in recent years much in part due to low numbers. He is the fifth softball coach to take over the program since Tony King’s successful run ended in 2010. The Bruins have not had a winning season since the 2010 team went 19-10. The program at that point ended a 17-year run of winning seasons under Chris Landis and King. Coach Cagle hopes to return the program to the glory days.

Coach Cagle shared his thoughts about his new position, “I’m excited to be the next head softball coach at Blackford High School. I will run a class act program. (One) that the community and BHS will be proud of. I’m ready to get things turned around and start winning games like we did years ago.” Cagle continued, “We have to get the girls to start loving the game and learn to compete on an daily basis. Then the wins will take place.”

Cagle has been a volunteer assistant the past several seasons under Bruin Baseball Coach Tony Uggen. “Coach Cagle knows exactly what we want from our staff and has a desire to develop a class act program. He was a valuable asset to our staff. I am sure that he run a disciplined program that will focus on the fundamentals. We have already already talked about maybe doing some things together to mix up practices now and then so our athletes can get a different perspective and to let the kids work together. It might make for a fun change of pace for our athletes,” Uggen continued, “He has been chomping at the bit to get his chance. I am looking forward to seeing what he and his team can accomplish. They may have struggled some of late but much of that was because they didn’t have pitching and were young. Now they have some pitching and more experience so the sky is the limit if the girls work hard.”
In discussing his plans, Coach Cagle added, “Our winter workouts will start the week after Christmas break. We will stress fundamental hitting, fielding and learn to communicate with each other.  I hope the community will come out and support the Lady Bruins. You won’t be disappointed. (I am) proud to be a Bruin!”

Best of luck to Coach Cagle and the Lady Bruins in ’19!!
