Bruins News · Lady Bruins Roughed Up at Delta

The Blackford Lady Bruins got off slow down 11-4 after 1 quarter and 35-6 at halftime. The Lady Bruins played better in the second half, but the deficit was to0 large to overcome in losing by a final score of 58-20. The fell to 1-10 on the season.

Coach Mitch Waters said, “Tough loss tonight because we really have felt like we have been making some strides as a team. We came out kind of flat in the first quarter, but not terrible. Then the second quarter we didn’t have an answer defensively allowing them to score 24 in the second period alone. We have to do a better job controlling the basketball to limit turnovers. A lot of their points were off of simple steals reading the passing lane and making layups. On a positive note, we ‘won’ the 3rd quarter 10-9 and kept the game pretty much where it was after the first half. Our girls never give up and that is a quality you can’t teach!”

Reaghan Harding led the Lady Bruins with 9 points and 3 rebounds. Erin Cagle added 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Makayla Harrold recorded 5 boards.

The JV was defeated tonight by the Eagles, 44-16. At halftime the Bruins were only down 19-16, but a scoring drought in the 3rd and 4th quarters for Blackford, and a scoring spurt by the Eagles in those quarters sealed the game. The Bruins were led in scoring by Madison Merkel with 8 points and 3 rebounds. Also scoring a basket for the Bruins were Layla Pennington, Zoey Sawyer, Bre Adney, and Macy Cagle. Junior Sissy Reid led in rebounding with 5. Zoey Sawyer and Bre Adney each had 4 steals. They fall to 4-7.
