Bruins News · Bruins End Streak of Trouncings; Defeats Oak Hill

The boys basketball team ended a 5-year streak of being trounced by Oak Hill. The Golden Eagles had won the last five games by 22, 43, 61, 40, and 61….an average 45.4 points per game. But the Bruins came out at a furious pace and raced to a 22-10 lead before settling for a 33-16 lead after one.

The story within the story, however, was sophomore sharpshooter Luke Brown rattling off the 11 points he needed to become the fastest player to 1000 in a career in Indiana high school basketball history. The prior record was set by Damon Bailey who accomplished the feat in his 40th career game. Brown quickly reeled off 8 points and then hit a bomb from behind the volleyball line to send the crowd into a frenzy as near 3000 witnessed the accomplishment. Bruins would finish with 39 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists. Brown did not play against Oak Hill last year as he sat out the last eight games due to injury.

The relentless pursuit to end the string of prior carnage was enhanced by the play of Brandon Stroble and Mark White who help the Bruins to a 48-24 lead at the half. Stroble would finish the game with 18 points, 3 rebounds, a steal, and 2 assists. White would actually pick up a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. He added a block, 2 steals, and 2 assists.

The Bruins would eventually extend their lead to 71-40 before cooling off late. The Bruins won it, 76-53.

Dalton Willmann scored 3 points and added 4 rebounds. Nathan Brown scored 4 points. Andrew Beckley scored 2 points and added 3 boards.

The Bruins shot 52% from the field on 29 of 56 shooting. They were 11 of 24 for 46% from behind the arc with Brown hitting 6 of 9. The Bruins committed just 7 turnovers.

With the win, the Bruins improved to 13-4 overall and finished 4-3 in the CIC.
