It was a long, cold, windy evening at the Bluffton tennis courts on Wednesday night, but it was worth the wait as the Lady Bruins picked up their first win of the season in what was a real battle between two evenly matched teams.
Coach Brian Smith said, “I felt good about the match as I thought we had a very productive practice on Tuesday night.” Kyran Williams match ended first with the Tigers winning the first point of the night. 1D Ashley Willmann and Skylar Stephens came back from a 5-2 deficit to take their first set 7-5 and won their second 6-3 for the Bruins first point. 2D Lydia Thompson and Caitlyn Morgan followed shortly with a close 7-5 second set win after winning their first set 6-1 for the second point of the night for the Bruins.
That left 1S Tori Baker and 3S Kayleigh Clevenger with a chance to win the match for the Bruins. Both headed to a third set. Tori came up short to leave the score tied 2-2. Fortunately Kayleigh was able to win her third set 6-3 to give the Lady Bruins the win.
Congratulations to JV 1S Calista Johns and 2D Brianna Elkins and Daytona McCulloch for winning their matches to force a 2-2 tie in the team match.
