In front of probably the biggest crowd of the season, the Bruin 7th grade boys basketball team defeated Southern Wells 40-36. The Bruins showed their many weapons early with five players scoring in the first quarter to lead 11-9. Tighter defense in the second quarter had the Bruins up seven at half, 22-15. The Raiders threatened late in the game with a 14-10 run in the fourth quarter. However, the Bruins got stops when they needed to pull off their third consecutive win to improve to 3-2 overall.
Riley Spaulding and Jacob Leas each scored 11 points. Gage Baker and Nick Ely both scored 8. Kaden Overla added 2.
All 11 players that dressed saw time on the floor in the 5th quarter. That is an uncounted quarter that gives some extra time for some other kids to play. Coach Winger said, “I’m extremely proud of the players as they have been improving as much in the classroom as they clearly have been on the basketball court!”
The 8th Bruins found them in a tight battle with their neighbors to the north. The Bruins lead 8-6 after the first quarter. The second quarter was intense, but the Bruins stretched their lead to eight points, 25-17, at the half. Picking up their defensive intensity and adding a 21-6 run, the Bruins extended their lead to 46-23 after three on their way to an eventual 55-29 victory to improve to 5-0.
Jackson Wors had a Double Double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assist. Ethan Morris scored 12 points and recorded 6 assists. Kian Wells added 9 points. Gavin Collett added 8 points. Vince Oxley added 7 points and Randy Winger rounded out the scoring with 2 points. Ty Nuenschwander hauled down 12 rebounds and played great defense.
A big thanks to the large crowd that showed up to watch the game in the new Sutton Center.
The Bruins host Frankton on Tuesday. The 7th grad game begins at 5:30pm.
