Bruins News · Bruins Improve to 3-0 in CIC with 93-74 Win


The varsity boys basketball player arguably its best game of the season on Friday in downing Madison-Grant 93-74 to improve to 8-2 on the season in front of a large crowd in Bruin Gym. With Coach Jerry Hoover watching from a hospital bed in Monticello, his son, Don, took the reigns and led the Bruins to the 19 point win. The Bruins seemingly played better defense and worked harder on the boards with 32 rebounds.

The Bruins, behind outstanding shooting from behind the arc by Brandon Stroble early, jumped out to a 25-15 lead after one quarter. The Bruins bumped the lead to 12 at the half, 43-31. The Bruins upped their lead to 67-52 after three. The Bruins outscored the Argylls 26-22 in the fourth thus outscoring their opponents all four quarters. The Bruins hit 52% of their shots for the game. They hit half of their 26 shots from behind the 3-point line and hit 16 off 22 from the line for 73%.
  
Luke Brown continued to impress scoring 35 points and dishing out 12 assists for a double-double. He added 3 rebounds and 3 steals. He continually wound his way to the basket for lay-ups or was fouled leading him to 11 points, with just one miss, from the line. Brandon Stroble hit 5 of 6 from behind the arc for 17 points. He added 5 rebounds. Dalton Willmann had a big night patrolling the boards. He scored 11 points and grabbed 11 boards to also record a double-double. Cam Elam scored 12 points and handed out 4 assists. Max Wors added 9 points and grabbed 6 boards. All five starters scored at least 9 points.

The JV Bruins jumped out a large lead early and fought of the Argylls in the end for a 65-56 win. The win pushed their record to 7-0. Dane Baker had a big night scoring 29 to lead the Bruins. Landon Grimes scored 16. Both hit 61% and 60% of their shots respectively. Grimes also added 12 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Steffen Hoover added 8 points and 4 rebounds. Except for 20 turnovers, the JV Bruins played a pretty good overall game.

Coach Don Hoover did share Saturday morning that that Coach Jerry Hoover was to be released from the hospital after battling pneumonia. He will still be cautious likely moving forward, but all are looking forward to seeing Coach Hoover back at the reigns in the near future.

The Bruins return to action at Mississinewa. There is a good chance that plans will change from what was expected. There is a good possibility that the 9th boys game and JV boys and girls games will be moved to Thursday night with a 4:30pm start but that has yet to be confirmed. That would leave the varsity girls and boys games to be played on Friday. The girls game would begin at 6pm. Stay tuned for information to be posted on this possible change.
