The boys soccer team battled for 90 minutes, but could not score in a 2-0 loss to Jay County in their opener of the Eastbrook Sectional. With the loss, the Bruins ended their unusual, COVID complicated season, 2-5-1. Jay County improved to 6-8 with the win.
Coach Brad Batman said, “During Saturday’s match at Maconaquah, I made some changes to our schemes and strategy. The team played better this way. However, we were only able to get in one practice working specifically on this style of play. Our team chemistry on the field was off for a good portion of the first half of play against Jay County. Jay was able to score early and apply pressure in the right places to disrupt our build up.”
The Bruins played very well after halftime as their ability to attack and build up seemed to settle things down. The Bruins had some great opportunities and the defense played well. Coach Batman credited Dylan Teer, Dane Baker, Evan Watt, and Ian Reid for their defensive efforts.
Coach Batman added about the strange season, “This has been a very unusual and frustrating season for us. We were unable to practice and play together as a full team for almost a month. Thankfully, our seniors were great leaders for our young team. Those seniors include Dane Baker, Tyler Brown, Steffen Hoover, Kendall Scher, Brayden Smith, and Tommie Stiles. We will return around 20 players with 8 of those being varsity starters. The future is bright in Bruin Country!
Congrats on a great effort last night. More so, for sticking with it and getting through a challenging season! Well done!
