On Saturday, the Blackford Club Bowling defeated an undermanned Wes-Del squad 10-0 and out-bowled their opponents, 1,646-1,200, during Baker games. With the win, the Bruins finished the season 3-7.
Performances were hit and miss throughout the day. The Bruins bowled their two highest Baker games of the year in games 8 and 9 but struggled spare shooting earlier on. Autumn Dollier also has been bowling through a sprained wrist (throwing hand) and has seen limited reps in practice this past week.
This was enough to keep Blackford in 5th out of the 6 teams in the White River Valley II Conference.
Saturday’s Baker scores for the Bruins were: 158, 160, 179, 155, 169, 126, 152, 206 (a season high), 196 and 145.
The final season averages were released for the Bruins as well, all of them better than they were last year for those who weren’t incoming freshmen. Coach Blake Dollier said, ”Each bowler has made great strides toward improving their game.”
The final season averages are as follows:
Cody Cook: 162 (12 games)
Gabe Foster: 181 (18 games)
Donovan Wilson: 170 (16 games)
Mason Quillen: 135 (18 games)
Autumn Dollier: 109 (16 games)
Team Average: 757 (4th in the conference)
Dollier added, “I’ve seen some bright spots in their performance and some costly missed single pins. If we bowl like we’re capable and like we did in games 8 and 9, we have a lot of potential to make noise in conference, sectionals, and hopefully make it to regionals. I’m happy with the progress I’ve seen in the team, but there’s always room for improvement, and we can’t let off the gas now with postseason upon us.”
The post-season will begin next week at Munsee Lanes for Conference. It is also Senior Day. Autumn Dollier, the team’s only senior, will be honored prior to match play. Senior Day ceremonies take place at 11am and match play begins at noon.
