The Blackford Lady Bruins went to Madison Grant and came out the victors 37-27.
In the first quarter, Blackford outscored MG10-8 after Madison Grant started up 4-0. The birthday girl Grace Simmons set the tone early leading the first quarter with 4, Cagle, Waters, and Stroble all had 2.
The second quarter the Lady Bruins extended the lead to 20-11. A defensive switch in the 2nd really helped the Bruins only giving up 3 total points in the second. In the quarter Waters had 4, Simmons, Lamotte, and Sydnee Morris all had 2.
Coach Mitch Waters said, “The girls came out a little too relaxed. Madison Grant did a great job of slowing the tempo and just playing really tight aggressive defense on us. However, once we were able to get the lead we never looked back. The second quarter we got into the zone and it really caused havoc against them. They instantly looked uncomfortable and we took advantage by getting some steals for easy buckets.”
In the third quarter the Lady Bruins started off great extending the lead 26-11, but Madison Grant didn’t lay down and came back with 6 of their own to go into the 4th down 26-17. But Stroble was the loan scorer for the Bruins with all 6.
The fourth quarter was more of the same as the Lady Bruins outscored the MG 11-10 in route to a 37-27 win. Olivia Leas had 6 and Waters with 5 in the quarter.
Coach Mitch Waters said, “We had a couple times in both quarters that we looked like we may extend the lead and run away with it, but MG wouldn’t quit and just kept chipping away. This wasn’t our prettiest victory, but you got to tip your cap to MG they really gave us everything we wanted. Our girls looked a little tired tonight, so hopefully they get their legs under them and are ready to go Thursday against Burris.”
Liv Waters 11
Bri Stroble 8
