The Unified Bruins traveled to Noblesville on Saturday to face the Fishers Tigers in the second annual IHSAA and Champions Together Sectional tournament.
The Bruins differed the ball to the second half. The Tigers would come out throwing. They would complete a 5 yard pass on first down being stopped by Branston Wine. On Second down they would find the end zone with a 30 yard completion and they would convert the 2 point conversion to go up 8-0.
The Bruins would look to answer back and they did. They would surprise the Tigers with a double reverse to Branston Wine who would score going 35 yards. The Bruins attempted to tie the game with a two point conversion, but the pass attempt to Jen McCaffery from Emma Jacobs would fall incomplete. The Bruins trailed by 2, 8-6.
The Tigers would start their second drive with a five yard pass with Emma Jacobs on the stop. Emma Jacobs would make another stop on second down tracking down the Fishers receiver after a 15 yard pick up. The Tigers would go to the air again on first down, but would only gain 5 yards on the play with a stop by Branston Wine. On second down Branston would intercept a pass attempt.
Bruins would start their second drive with Emma Jacobs completing a 3 yard pass to Jen McCaffery on first down. Austin Rountree would have his pass attempt on second down fall incomplete. The Bruins would try the double reverse again on third down this time with Emma Jacobs. Fishers would not fall for it and the Bruins would only gain 2 yards on the play. That would set up 4 down where Branston Wine would attempt to pass to Jen, but the pass would fall incomplete.
After holding the Bruins to a four and out the Tigers would waste no time on their next drive. Scoring on a first down 35 yard pass. They would also convert the 2 point try. extending their lead to 8, 6-14.
The Bruins would answer right back with Emma Jacobs taking the ball 35 yards for a touchdown to pull the Bruins within 6. The 2pt conversion try would not be successful Bruins trail 12-14.
The Tigers would score on their next drive,but not after a strong defensive stance by they Bruins. Branston Wine would make two stops and the Bruins defense would force two incomplete passes. Emma Jacobs would make a big stop during the 2 pt conversion blocking the Tigers pass attempt. Tigers led now 12-20.
The Bruins would come out for their 4th drive with a pass attempt from Branston Wine to Logan Wilson that fell in complete. ON second down Emma Jacobs would hand the ball off to Branston for a 5 yard gain. That would set up 3rd down for the Bruins where they would run the double reverse. This time it would Jen McCaffery getting the ball carrying it for a 7 yard gain. Needing to pick up a first down Branston would attempt a pass to Kyler Brock, but the pass would fall incomplete.
The Tigers would run the ball on the first down of their fifth drive pick up 10 yards before being stopped by Emma Jacobs. The Tigers would go back to the air on second down scoring on a 25 yard pass. The Bruins defense stepped up for the 2 pt conversion forcing an incomplete pass. The Tigers extended their lead to 14, 12-26.
The Bruins would come out for their 5th drive with a double reverse this time with Sissy McNeal taking the ball the full distance of the field for a 35 yard rushing score. For the 2pt conversion Emma Jacobs would hand hand the ball off to Branston Wine who would skirt into the end zone. The Bruins cut into the Tigers lead 20-26.
The Tigers would answer right back with a 35 yard pass and conversion the 2 point try to extend their lead to 34-20.
Sissy McNeal would get the Bruins 6th drive of the game going with a pass attempt that would fall incomplete. Emma Jacobs would hand the ball off to Kyler Brock for a 3 yard pick up on second down. Branston Wine handed off the ball to Emma on third down for a 7 yard gain. Emma would attempt a pass on fourth down, but it would fall incomplete.
The Tigers would get the ball back and would look to add to lead before the first half ended . On first down the Tigers completed a 15 yard pass before being stopped by Emma Jacobs. The Bruins defense would come up big with time running out in the half. Forcing an incomplete pass.
The Bruins trailed the Tigers going into halftime 20-34.
The Bruins would get the ball to start the second half. Emma Jacobs would attempt to connected with Jen McCaffery, but the pass would fall incomplete. On second down Emma Jacobs would hand the ball off to Branston Wine for a 35 yard run touchdown. Emma Jacobs would hand the ball off to Angle Thomas, but the pass would fall incomplete. Bruins trail the Tigers 26-34.
The Tigers would waste no time on their next drive. Their first down play would fall incomplete. The second down play was a 35 yard pass into the end zone and they converted the 2 point conversion to extend their lead on the Bruins 26-42.
Angel Thomas would open the Bruins next drive with a 4 yard run. The Bruins would run their double reverse with Emma Jacobs getting the ball and carried it for a 7 yard gain. Austin Rountree would complete a 4 pass to Emma Jacobs for a new set of downs. On first down Austin would complete another 4 yard pass this time to Branston Wine. That would set up a second down where Austin would attempt a pass to Emma, but the pass would fall incomplete. Branston Wine would have his third down pass attempt intercepted.
The Tigers not letting up on their air attack completed a 16 yard pass on first down with a stop by Branston Wine. Branston would get another stop on second down, but the Tiger gained 5 yards and a new set of downs on a pass play. They would score on first down with a 19 yard completion. The tigers would convert the 2 pt conversion to extend their lead to 50–32.
The Bruins wold start their second to last drive of the game with a 2 yard run by Emma Jacobs. They would run another reverse with Jen McCaffery carrying it for a 4 yard gain on second down. Branston Wine would take the ball into the end zone for a 24 yard scoring run and Sissy McNeal would convert the 2 point conversion. The Bruins cut the Tigers lead to 32-50.
The Bruins would force an incomplete pass on the Tigers first down. They would score on second down with a 35 yard pass. Sissy McNeal would block the pass for the 2 point conversion. Tigers lead the Bruins 56-32.
The Bruins final drive of the game would see Logan Wilson carry the ball for 10 yards. On Second and third down Branston Wine would try to connect with Jen McCaffery, but both passes would fall incomplete. Emma would have her pass that was intended for Angel Thomas intercepted.
The Tigers would run ball and Emma Jacobs would make the stop with the clock ticking under two minutes. The Tigers would run the ball inside the no run zone at midfield and would lose a down. On third down they would complete a 4 yard pass and the clack would run out on the game before the Tigers could run another play final score 56-32.
“I am so proud of this team, We knew Fishers was going to be a tough team to face. We were in this game all day and played our hearts out.” Coach McDonald said after the game. ” Our record does not reflect how good of team we were this season.” Coach McDonald added ” Until today our biggest loss deficit was 23, and those two games we just ran out of time in coming back.” McDonald added.
“This was our second year playing and we have improved since last year and that was our goal. To improve our skills and I feel we have done that, and will continue to do that next season.”

Branston led the team in rushing. He rushed for 99 yards on 4 carries and 3 touchdowns. That breaks his single game record set earlier this year.
