The Blackford Lady Bruins lose a heart breaker against Madison-Grant 33-31. The Lady Bruins had a 17-13 lead going in a halftime, but a slow 3rd quarter allowed Madison Grant to take a 25-22 lead and hold on for a win. The Lady Bruins just couldn’t match up to Madison-Grant’s size with Sophie Winger, Grace Marshall, Gretchen Messersmith, Faith Maloney, and Alexa Hurd all out with injuries. Madison Grant was able to out rebound the Bruins 36-22, which hurt considering the Lady Bruins normally get 30+ rebounds per game.

Coach Mitch Waters said, “We came out doing a great job of playing defense without fouling and getting good quality shots at the basket. With their size advantage playing 3 girls at 5-11 and taller we knew it was going to be hard to rebound with them if we didn’t box out. Those rebounds turned out to be the difference because of second chance opportunities for them and the lack of chances for us. We did a solid job controlling the basketball and creating turnovers and that is what kept the game tight. We have a lot of work to do on the free throw line going 8-26, because our game plan was to attack them which we did a great job of we just didn’t make the free throws down the stretch. Either way, I am very proud of how hard we played today, and it is nice to see us having chances to win at the end of some of these games.”
