The Blackford Lady Bruins came out firing on all cylinders and looked very strong defensively. Frankton struggled to figure out the defensive scheme early and didn’t seem to be very comfortable shooting the ball. The Lady Bruins held Frankton to just 5 points the first quarter as they were leading 10-5 after 1. In the second quarter it was the Gardner sister’s that really stepped up for Frankton scoring 13 of their 18 points as well as a last second 3 at the end of the half to take a 23-19 lead. The Lady Bruins showed no signs of quitting as they scored 14 points in the 3rd quarter including 10 big ones from Olivia Leas! The game kept going back and forth most of the game and the Lady Bruins just never could quite get over the hump as they were taken down 50-44.
Coach Mitch Waters said, “I am very proud of our girls regardless of the outcome. Of course we wanted to win and even expected to win, but sometimes you have to tip your cap to your opponent and accept that they were just a little bit better than us tonight. I was happy to see Helen Whitesell come off the bench and score 10 huge points especially when Olivia Leas got into foul trouble early. Helen really looked comfortable which is what we have been hoping for since her injury against Oak Hill. Reaghan Harding also had a very solid game with 7 points. I think that overall we had a lot of positives in tonight’s game, unfortunately a couple defensive blunders really hurt us. We no longer hold the keys to our future in terms of the CIC, but we still have an outside chance and we are pushing for the first winning season in 5 years.”
Olivia Leas 13
Helen Whitesell 10
Olivia Waters & Reaghan Harding 7
Jaycie Sones 5
Grace Simmons 2
