The Blackford Lady Bruins start off the season getting beat 52-40 against Southwood. Blackford struggled early trailing 17-2 after the first quarter. They battled hard in the 2nd quarter to make it a 21-29 game. In the 3rd the Lady Bruins started out a little flat as well falling behind a little further 42-29.

Coach Mitch Waters said, “It was a difficult loss tonight, because we felt like we had a solid game plan and that we were ready to get off to a good start. However, it’s really hard to win games if you start out giving the other team a 15 point lead. We came out very flat on defense and lacked communication which allowed them to get 4 easy corner 3 point shots. Our girls also struggled to knock down open jumpers. We were 3-29 behind the 3pt line tonight. I would venture to say 26 or 27 of those were wide open looks. Everyone was a little nervous, but I never expected our team to miss that many open shots, because these girls have put in the work and had a great off-season. Helen Whitesell had a great game on the offensive end hitting our only 3’s of the night and finished with 13 points. Now we have to erase this game and come back on Friday ready for Daleville.
