Boys Basketball Coach: Jerry Hoover

Jerry Hoover

Coaching Staff / 2020-21

Team: Boys Varsity Basketball
Position: Head Coach

Long-time coach Jerry Hoover, who has righted the ship of eight struggling programs, did the same in ’17-18 as he lead the Bruins to a 14-9 in his first season as BHS. It was the first winning season for the Bruins since the ’01-02 season. Since, the Bruins have compiled 17-6 and 21-5 seasons since including a sectional championship in ’19-20 before Covid shut down the season.

Coach Hoover has had a long and winding coaching career which has included coaching future NBA player Randy Wittman at Ben Davis in the late ’70s and 2014 Miss Basketball Whitney Jennings at Logansport.

In his last eight seasons as the Logansport girls coach Hoover went 157-35 (.818) with four North Central Conference championships, three sectional titles and one regional title.

The regional title — in 2014 at the age of 79 — was the first in Hoover’s 34-year high school coaching career. Logansport was his eighth high school stop, but first time coaching a girls program. He also spent many years as a college men’s assistant coach at Indiana State.

He entered the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2019.

He and his wife live on a farm in Monticello, IN.
